local architects per Padiglioni Oman e Qatar
I Padiglioni dell’Emirato del Qatar e del Sultanato dell’Oman sono stati disegnati da Cityneon, una società di cinesi di Singapore che ha sede in Barhein da 25 anni. Noi li abbiamo tradotti in realtà architettonicamente. In realtà quando sono arrivati per la prima volta sul nostro tavolo abbiamo detto: “ma no… noi facciamo gli architetti!”. Invece aveva ragione Cityneon perchè questi due Padiglioni non sono una scatola con dentro la mostra ma sono la mostra stessa, a differenza di altri padiglioni sicuramente più architettonici ma meno evocativi. L’Expo più che una rassegna di architetture deve essere un racconto, non la celebrazione degli architetti o degli edifici e ogni Paese ha la possibilità di declinare questo racconto come vuole. I Paesi del Middle East tendono a voler mostrare e fare comprendere le loro tradizioni, anche attraverso la struttura stessa del Padiglione, quello che poi c’è dentro è tutto una scoperta.

local architects for Omani and Qatari Pavilions
The pavilions of the Qatar Emirate and the Oman Sultanate have been designed by Cityneon, a Singaporean Chinese company that has been based in Bahrain for 25 years. We translated them into reality from an architectural perspective. Actually when we met for the first time we told them: “sorry… but we are architects!” In fact Cityneon was right, because these two pavilions are not containers for the exhibitions, they are the exhibitions themselves, unlike other pavilions that are certainly more architectural but less evocative. Expo should not be a place to celebrate architects and their buildings, but a narrative, and each country has the chance to tell the story as it wishes. Middle-Eastern countries generally want to display their tradition, also through the structure of the pavilion itself; what you find inside is a surprise.
