Da quando ci è stato chiesto di creare un concept per lo spettacolo di Expo2015, due anni fa, ho iniziato a fare ricerca e interrogarmi sul tema di Expo e sulla sua universalità. Perchè il cibo è un tema immenso: cosa ci nutre? è solo il cibo che ci nutre? cosa nutre i nostri cuori? cosa nutre le nostre anime? questo è stato il nostro viaggio in questi ultimi due anni. Soprattutto: non ci siamo potuti scordare di essere in italia. Noi respiriamo questa aria, qui ci alziamo ogni mattina… credo sia molto importante rispettare il Paese che ci ospita e l’italia è un paese profondo, con valori profondi e tradizioni d’arte e di invenzione radicate. Un Paese che non è mai timido nell’esprimere sè stesso e le sue emozioni. Come creatrice, come regista ho osservato tutto: dalle cucine alle grandi arene politiche, sono andata ovunque battesse il cuore in cerca del giusto equilibrio tra l’universalità e l’individuo.

Since we were asked to create a concept for Expo2015, two years ago, I began to research the theme of Expo and its universality. Food is a huge subject: what feeds us? Is it only food that feeds us? What feeds our souls, what feeds our hearts? This was our journey for two years, also not forgetting that we’re in Italy. This is the air we smell, this is where we get up in the morning… I think it’s very important to respect the host country, and Italy is a deep country, it has deep family values, a deep artistic and invention tradition. It is a country that never shies from emotion, from expressing itself. As a creator, as a director, you have to look at everything: from the kitchen to the big political arenas, what is the heartbeat? It’s trying to find the balance between universality and the individual.
