volontaria Padiglione EU
Studio economia e finanza internazionale a Milano, mia madre è italiana e mio padre svedese e ho fatto due settimane di volontariato in Expo all’interno del Padiglione UE, ora tornerò alla mia ligia vita di studente. Faccio parte del Parlamento Europeo dei giovani e poter partecipare ad Expo facendo volontariato e rappresentando l’Unione Europea è stato un win-win da tutte le parti. Pensavo che sarebbe stata un’esperienza statica, invece è stato tutt’altro. Quando si fa volontariato ognuno decide da solo a che livello impegnarsi, e lì sta la sfida, nel dire: voglio esserci al 100% torno a casa stanco, è faticoso, però è veramente entusiasmante. Questa esperienza mi ha tolto il cinismo, vedo il cinismo come una scorciatoia per evitare il coinvolgimento personale e l’impegno ma il cinismo alla lunga inaridisce, questa esperienza invece mi ha arricchito.

EU Pavilion volunteer
I study international economics and finance in Milan; my mother is Italian and my father Swedish. I volunteered for two weeks for the EU Pavilion at Expo, and now I will go back to my life as a diligent student. I am part of the European Youth Parliament, and being able to take part in Expo as a volunteer, representing the European Union, was a win-win from all points of view. I thought it was going to be a monotonous experience, but it wasn’t at all. When volunteering, each person decides how much to commit, and that was the challenge, being able to say: I want to give my 100% and go home tired after work; it’s hard but really exciting. This experience put an end to my cynicism, I now feel that cynicism is a shortcut to avoid first hand involvement and commitment; cynicism eventually will make you wither, while this experience truly enriched me.
