Ho vissuto 15 anni a Lisbona e a Lisbona nel 1998 ho partecipato ad Expo. Ne sono rimasta talmente entusiasta che quando ho saputo che c’era Expo a Milano mi sono detta: torno a casa e voglio partecipare. Sono tornata un paio di anni fa e non ho trovato lavoro, mi sono lanciata in vari progetti sia fotografici che di turismo. Nel frattempo ho continuato a mandare curriculum per Expo finchè gli ultimi 10 giorni prima dell’inaugurazione mi hanno chiamata per il negozio di palazzo italia. La differenza principale che ho notato rispetto all’expo di Lisbona è la mancanza di attenzione per i lavoratori; non si è pensato a luoghi di ritrovo o svago, sconti, facilitazioni… perchè Expo è anche un mondo, noi viviamo qui per sei mesi e ci dobbiamo vivere al meglio per portarci a casa anche un’esperienza positiva. Per questo ho creato un gruppo: Inside Expo, per permetterci di conoscerci tra di noi, organizzare delle iniziative come ad esempio i prossimi Mondiali di calcetto, incontri o anche risolvere questioni pratiche. La mia prospettiva sinceramente oltre a lavorare è anche potermi divertire, conoscere molta gente e rimanere in contatto con loro. Molti ragazzi mi stanno già proponendo di andare a Dubai ma.. non so se reggo!

I lived in Lisbon for fifteen years, and there in 1998 I took part in Expo. I loved the experience so much that when I heard that Expo would come to Milan I told myself: I’m going home and I want to be a part of this. I came back a couple of years ago and I didn’t find a job, but started a few projects, in the fields of photography and tourism. In the meantime, I kept sending CVs for Expo, until I was called ten days before the opening to work in Palazzo Italia’s shop. The main difference I noticed with Lisbon’s Expo is the lack of care for the workers; nobody thought of setting up recreational areas, or arranging discounts and concessions… because Expo is where we live for six months, and one of the objectives is to come back from this with a positive experience. That’s why I created a group, Inside Expo, to give us the opportunity to know each other, to organise initiatives such as the upcoming five-a-side football world cup, set up meetings, or solve practical questions. My aim, aside from working, is to have fun, to meet lots of people and to stay in touch with them. Some of my colleagues are already telling me that I should go to Dubai, but I don’t know I if I’m up to it!
